Physics Newton's Laws of Motion Friction and Frictional Force MCQ (Single Correct)

Two blocks are pushed against a rough wall and the system is at rest as shown in figure –

A
Friction force on block ‘A’ due to B is in upward direction
B
Friction force on block A due to wall is 150 N
C
Minimum force required to keep system at rest is 375 N

The correct answer is:
CHECK THE SOLUTION.

(a, b, c)

Free body diagram of block A:

f AB , downward direction

f AW = f AB + 10 g... (i)

N AW = N AB ... (ii)

Free body diagram of block B:

f BA = 5g ... (iii)

N BA = F ... (iv)

From (i) & (iii)

f AW = 150 N

From (ii) & (iv)

N AW = F

⇒ μ N AW ≥ 150 N

⇒ 0.4 × F ≥ 150 N

⇒ F ≥ 375 N
